Short Biography

José Gislero (b. 1960, Switzerland) is a contemporary painter working between symbolic realism and figurative painting. After a twenty-year international career as an engineer across Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas, he left corporate life in 2008 to dedicate himself entirely to art.

He studied at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes "San Alejandro" in Havana, Cuba, where he lived and worked for more than fifteen years. His artistic practice evolved through a dialogue between diverse cultures, personal experience, and a deep interest in spirituality, memory, and human resilience.

Working primarily in oil on canvas, Gislero creates paintings that move between contemplation and witness. His figures emerge from darkness and fields of light, exploring themes of vulnerability, displacement, care, and dignity. Recent series such as Gaza and Shadows examine the fragility of human existence while affirming the enduring strength of compassion and hope.

He currently lives and works in Andalucía, Spain.
